The All-Natural Supplement that May Prevent Killer Diseases

All About Resveratrol

By Mark Juliano

Thanks to stories on 60 Minutes, Oprah, Dr. Oz, and Barbara Walters, supplements based on Resveratrol now top the “hot list.” Multiple studies conducted on laboratory animals have demonstrated the highly beneficial effects of this polyphenol (a class of plant chemicals) which is found in the skins of grapes and in red wine.

KEY ANIMAL FINDINGS

Resveratrol has been shown to enhance muscle strength, reduce fatigue, and help prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer. It can help clear away the toxic proteins that cause Alzheimer’s disease, and even increase animals’ life span by 25-50%. But can this substance do the same for humans?

AN IMPORTANT DISCOVERY

Resveratrol’s emergence as an anti-aging powerhouse began in the 1930s with the finding that calorie restriction – 30% less than a normal diet – could extend lifespan by 20-50% in both animals and humans. In the 1990s, researchers at Harvard Medical School discovered that near starvation triggers an activation of “survival” or SIRT genes which produce enzymes that slow cellular aging. The scientists also found that Resveratrol is the most powerful SIRT activator, especially in combination with other grape polyphenols, such as Quercetin.

CURRENT EVIDENCE

The most startling research result was found in 2003 at Harvard. When given Resveratrol, obese mice lived as long as normal weight mice, and did not fall prey to diabetes, heart disease and other conditions. Resveratrol appears to achieve these results through a number of mechanisms including a reduction in the inflammation which contributes to cardiovascular disease.

BREAKTHROUGH RESEARCH

A recent human study showed that drinking one and a half glasses of red wine per day reduced levels of lipid peroxide, a by-product of inflammation that damages arteries, by 40%. At the same time, Resveratrol was shown to spark the production of the beneficial gas, nitric oxide, which increases blood vessel flexibility. Resveratrol also thins the blood, reducing the risk for clots.

Cancer: Eighteen different types of cancer have been markedly inhibited in laboratory studies of human and animal cells.

Diabetes: Resveratrol helps normalize blood sugar levels by moving glucose out of the bloodstream and into cells, and stimulating natural insulin production.

Alzheimer’s: Resveratrol helps remove the amyloid-beta protein that causes brain damage associated with Alzheimers’s.

New Findings: In a study of 90 healthy adults, researchers at Marywood University found that a blend of 400mg of Resveratrol plus other polyphenols improved memory and sped up reaction time.

BEST SOURCES

To achieve an optimum dosage of 400mg of Resveratrol, one could consume massive quantities of grapes, red wine, or chocolate. However, unhealthful quantities of calories, sugar, or alcohol would come along for the ride. Look for a supplement blend with 98% pure Resveratrol extracted from the roots of polygonum cuspidatum – the Japanese Knotweed. Ideally, Resveratrol is most effective when blended with the broad spectrum of polyphenols found in red wine grapes, and Quercetin, another powerful SIRT gene activator.

Vinomis Comments on Resveratrol Lawsuits by Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Mehmet Oz

Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Mehmet Oz, and their companies have filed a lawsuit against a long list of companies using thier names and images to market nutritional supplements based on Resveratrol and other nutraceutical ingredients. Vinomis Laboratories applauds this effort to shut down deceptive practices which hurt our entire industry.

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) September 15, 2009 — It has come to the attention of Vinomis Laboratories that certain companies, not including Vinomis have been named in a lawsuit from Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Mehmet Oz concerning unauthorized and potentially illegal use of their names in the marketing and supposed endorsements of nutraceutical supplement products. Vinomis is not named in the lawsuit, and does not practice the kind of marketing techniques outlined in Ms. Winfrey’s and Dr. Oz’s lawsuit. (Case 1:09-cv-07297-DAB in the Southern District of New York)

“We applaud Ms. Winfrey and Dr. Oz for investigating and taking this action,” said Mark Juliano, President and CEO of Vinomis Laboratories. “These types of marketing activities tarnish the whole industry, and are delighted that Ms. Winfrey and Dr. Oz have decided to take strong action.”
Resveratrol, fish oils, Acai berries, and other nutraceuticals mentioned in the lawsuit do possess many positive health benefits. There is no need to use deceptive marketing tactics, as the products and scientific studies speak for themselves.

“Vinomis uses no celebrity endorsements in its marketing,” commented Barry Yarkoni, Marketing Vice President, “Our endorsements are from doctors, patients, researchers, and customers.”

Vinomis maintains a “co-compromise” approach to product quality, and complements this with honesty and openness in its marketing activities. For example, the quantity of Resveratrol in Vindure 900 is conservatively stated on the Supplement Facts label. While there is actually 428mg of polygonum cuspidatum extract, the product label lists only 400mg of pure trans-Resveratrol to compensate for the 98% purity, and allowing for a long shelf life.

The Vinomis Red Wine Extract contains over 90% polyphenols. Testing performed at Brunswick Laboratories, determined an ORAC value of 19,638 per tablet. The manufacturing plant where Vindure is produced is FDA, TGA, USP, and NSF certified. All the ingredients used in our products have been tested in human clinical trials.

The Vinomis website is accurate and straightforward. The home page, and other pages, list the precise ingredients contained in our products, and the full Supplement Facts label is available for viewing. Each web page contains contact information including the Vinomis toll-free phone number (877-484-6664) and email address (support@vinomis.com).
The founders of Vinomis Laboratories are doctors, university professors, and former executives of major Fortune 500 companies in the nutraceutical, consumer products, and technology industries.

Vindure is available through the company’s website at Vinomis.com, and through a network of retailers and medical professionals who are recommending Vindure to patients. Vindure 900 includes pure Resveratrol, Quercetin, and red wine grape extract from Bordeaux.

Weiss said that his employees kept an eye out for inappropriate celebrity endorsements and he asked the affiliates to pull those ads. He declined to name the ad affiliates FWM uses, because “we don’t want our competitors to know who we deal with.”

EXCERPTS:

“Now, we want you to continue with those, but we also want you to add 180 bottles of pinot noir a night to the list—or, at least, what is in those bottles. Why? Because it turns on your sirtuin gene. Yes, today we want to bend your mind about staying young by learning about something that has to do with red wine. Bear with us, because this may lead you to a real Fountain of Youth. We used the word may because we do not have all the data yet, but we will shortly. Stay tuned, and we’ll report it here.”

“Did you know animals live one-third longer with better health (the equivalent of a human living 150 to 160 years) if they are forced to eat between 15 and 35 percent fewer calories than normal? Why? This protective mechanism against famine ensures the survival of the individual through difficult times. The damage too many calories cause is often seen in a second set of DNA you have in all cells. This DNA is in the area of each cell called mitochondria. Your mitochondria are your energy factories—so, if you want to regain the energy of a 2-year-old, or even a 20-year-old, you want to keep your mitochondria young. When you damage that mitochondrial DNA, you produce less energy from the same amount of nutrients.

What does this have to do with red wine? The resveratrol in red wine (a substance that gives wine some of its red color) protects your mitochondria like calorie restriction does: by turning on a chemical named sirtuin. Unfortunately, you have to drink too much red wine to get enough of the ingredient to activate your sirtuin gene.”
