Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Mehmet Oz, and their companies have filed a lawsuit against a long list of companies using thier names and images to market nutritional supplements based on Resveratrol and other nutraceutical ingredients. Vinomis Laboratories applauds this effort to shut down deceptive practices which hurt our entire industry.

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) September 15, 2009 — It has come to the attention of Vinomis Laboratories that certain companies, not including Vinomis have been named in a lawsuit from Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Mehmet Oz concerning unauthorized and potentially illegal use of their names in the marketing and supposed endorsements of nutraceutical supplement products. Vinomis is not named in the lawsuit, and does not practice the kind of marketing techniques outlined in Ms. Winfrey’s and Dr. Oz’s lawsuit. (Case 1:09-cv-07297-DAB in the Southern District of New York)

“We applaud Ms. Winfrey and Dr. Oz for investigating and taking this action,” said Mark Juliano, President and CEO of Vinomis Laboratories. “These types of marketing activities tarnish the whole industry, and are delighted that Ms. Winfrey and Dr. Oz have decided to take strong action.”

Resveratrol, fish oils, Acai berries, and other nutraceuticals mentioned in the lawsuit do possess many positive health benefits. There is no need to use deceptive marketing tactics, as the products and scientific studies speak for themselves.

“Vinomis uses no celebrity endorsements in its marketing,” commented Barry Yarkoni, Marketing Vice President, “Our endorsements are from doctors, patients, researchers, and customers.”

Vinomis maintains a “co-compromise” approach to product quality, and complements this with honesty and openness in its marketing activities. For example, the quantity of Resveratrol in Vindure 900 is conservatively stated on the Supplement Facts label. While there is actually 428mg of polygonum cuspidatum extract, the product label lists only 400mg of pure trans-Resveratrol to compensate for the 98% purity, and allowing for a long shelf life.

The Vinomis Red Wine Extract contains over 90% polyphenols. Testing performed at Brunswick Laboratories, determined an ORAC value of 19,638 per tablet. The manufacturing plant where Vindure is produced is FDA, TGA, USP, and NSF certified. All the ingredients used in our products have been tested in human clinical trials.

The Vinomis website is accurate and straightforward. The home page, and other pages, list the precise ingredients contained in our products, and the full Supplement Facts label is available for viewing. Each web page contains contact information including the Vinomis toll-free phone number (877-484-6664) and email address (support@vinomis.com).
The founders of Vinomis Laboratories are doctors, university professors, and former executives of major Fortune 500 companies in the nutraceutical, consumer products, and technology industries.

Vindure is available through the company’s website at Vinomis.com, and through a network of retailers and medical professionals who are recommending Vindure to patients. Vindure 900 includes pure Resveratrol, Quercetin, and red wine grape extract from Bordeaux.

Green tea is a highly recommended addition to the human diet, and deserves its own section in the Learning Center.

The tea plant is technically known as Camellia Sinensis. All tea varieties come from this species (green tea, black tea, oolong tea, and white tea). The differences are in the processing methods. Other “teas” from flowers such as peppermint, camomile, etc. are not “technically” teas.

Every kind of tea contains some polyphenols, but the minimal processing that Green tea undergoes produces the highest content of polyphenols available in teas. Due to these polyphenols, Green tea is very high inantioxidants which are, like Resveratrol and red wine extracts, known to have a great many health benefits.

In particular, Green tea is very high in Flavonoid antioxidant polyphenols, which are again linked to red wine and the French Paradox. The most powerful flavonoids present in both red wine and green teas are catechin, epicatechin and gallic acid. Resveratrol, is not contained in most green tea, or is in small dosages.

The best kind of Green teas are those which are minimally processed, whole leaf teas, versus the “chopped up” variety found in most commercially available teas, although these kinds still are worth drinking.

The following book is highly recommended as a source of valuable information about Green Tea, its origins, medicinal benefits, etc.

The Green Tea Book, The Science-Backed “Miracle Cure”

Dark Chocolate is one of the best sources of Resveratrol, polyphenols and Antioxidants. It also has the highest ORAC antioxidant score per ounce (6,000 per oz) along with Blueberries. As a comparison, one Vindure 900 tablet has an ORAC value of 19,638

Scientists have discovered powerful polyphenols in cocoa, and recently identified trans-resveratrol in dark chocolate and cocoa liquor extracts, which also contain Catechins similar to those found in green tea and procyanidins found in Red Wine. There have been 100s of human clinical trials using dark chocolate as a source of FLAVANOLS, a kind of polyphenols in wine and green tea.

The best dark Chocolate MUST have a high cocoa value (70 – 85%). Often flavanols are removed from dark chocolate to reduce the bitter taste. Milk chocolate is generally about 30% cocoa, and has added sugar (with calories) and milk fats, and much of the polyphenol-flavanols have been removed. The best dark chocolate has minimal sweeteners and sugars. Of course, the amount of dark chocolate eaten daily should be kept relatively small due to caloric intake — a daily dosage of about 1 oz containing about 50 calories is recommended.

May 31, 2005 (CIDRAP News) – Resveratrol, a chemical found in grapes and other fruits, inhibits the reproduction of influenza viruses in cell culture and mice, according to a recent report in the Journal of Infectious Diseases.

Rather than directly attacking the flu virus itself, resveratrol seems to block host-cell functions that are essential for viral replication, says the report by Anna T. Palamara and colleagues at the University of Rome. They write that the substance holds promise as a possible weapon against flu.

Resveratrol is an antioxidant that is found in at least 72 plant species and is known to help protect the heart and nervous system and help prevent cancer, says the report. The researchers did a series of experiments in which they exposed cells to a flu virus and added resveratrol an hour later. They also exposed groups of mice to the virus and treated them with resveratrol or a placebo.
